Why I Created ElderPowerUp

I spent much of my life helping people learn, solve problems, and navigate difficult times—as a psychologist, teacher, school administrator, professor, and advocate for older adults.

But aging became very personal for me.

I cared for my wife through Alzheimer’s disease and saw how quickly health problems can change a person’s life and the lives of everyone around them. Later, as I grew older myself, I began asking a different question:

What can we do before a crisis happens to give ourselves the best chance of living longer, healthier, more independent lives?

That question eventually became ElderPowerUp.

Looking for Better Answers

As I got older, I wanted to understand what I could actually do to protect my health, independence, and quality of life.

I began learning more about longevity, exercise, nutrition, medical testing, technology, and the rapidly growing use of artificial intelligence in health.

The more I learned, the more I realized something important: older adults have access to more health information than ever before, but much of it is difficult to understand and even harder to put to use.

Medical records can be confusing. Research can be overwhelming. New technology can feel intimidating. And many people simply do not know where to begin.

That became the problem I wanted ElderPowerUp to help solve.

You Can Be More Involved in Your Own Health.

I believe older adults should be active participants in their health—not passive passengers.

That does not mean replacing doctors or trying to diagnose ourselves.

It means learning to understand our health information, ask better questions, keep our records organized, use technology with confidence, and make informed choices about our daily lives.

Increasingly, it also means learning how tools such as ChatGPT can help explain complicated information in ordinary language.

Our Focus Is Healthspan

Living longer is valuable only if we can also preserve as much health, independence, purpose, and enjoyment as possible.

That is why ElderPowerUp focuses on four simple areas:

MOVE — strength, walking, balance, and mobility
EAT — nutrition and metabolic health
CALM — sleep, stress, recovery, and emotional well-being
ENGAGE — relationships, purpose, learning, and community

You do not have to improve everything at once. Small steps matter.

Why ElderPowerUp Is Free

I want useful healthspan information and tools to be available to older adults regardless of how much money they have.

That is why everything ElderPowerUp provides is free.

There is no expensive program you have to buy and no pressure to become a customer.

My goal is simple: help older adults gain the knowledge, tools, and confidence to take greater control of their healthspan.

I am doing the same thing in my own life.

We are learning together.
